Networks pose different challenges than conventional organisations. One challenge is that networks require voluntary energy and commitment.

Five development organisations (Action Aid Netherlands, SOMO, UNOY Peacebuilders, ETC and Free Press Unlimited) participated in an action research looking at reasons for why participation in networks is often not as active as was hoped for. They further explored  competences required to work in networks and how to manage networks in such a way that they meet the expectations of their partners and motivate them to contribute.
